Dead Product Detector: find dead stock in Shopify

Find the products tying up cash and hurting margins. Review estimated money at risk, choose which products to act on, and compare later scans. Core scans use product and inventory data; movement-based flags build from the snapshots collected over time.

// features

>Dead stock, slow movers & thin margins

The first scan can identify thin-margin candidates. After enough daily snapshots exist, movement-based flags highlight products with no detected movement or low sell-through. These are inventory observations, not exact last-sale dates.

>Capital-at-risk calculation

See the estimated dollars sitting idle in dead inventory — not just a count of SKUs.

>Custom thresholds (Plus)

Tune zombie days, margin floor, and sell-through threshold to match your business. Jewelry, commodity, luxury — all have different definitions of 'dead'.

>Weekly email digest

A clean weekly summary surfaces actionable risks when they appear, no login required.

>Know what the scan can tell you

Core scans use product and inventory data. Review each flag with your product cycle in mind: seasonal stock and inventory adjustments need context before you decide to discount.

>Compare your last 30 scans (Plus)

Plus shows the last 30 scans so you can see whether flagged inventory and estimated money at risk are shrinking after you act.

From a daily scan to an informed inventory decision

DPD turns inventory snapshots into a short decision queue, then keeps the history you need to see whether those decisions worked.

  1. step_01

    Scan product inventory

    The first scan can surface margin candidates while establishing an inventory-movement baseline. Mature snapshots then surface zombie and slow-mover candidates.

  2. step_02

    Prioritize money at risk

    The dashboard translates flags into estimated capital tied up and projected margin loss so the expensive problems rise first.

  3. step_03

    Act and check the trend

    Use the recommended action, then compare later scans to check whether flagged inventory and estimated risk have changed.

// faq

?How is "dead inventory" defined?
The first scan can surface margin candidates from product price and cost data while establishing an inventory-movement baseline. After enough retained snapshots exist, DPD surfaces zombie candidates with no detected movement and slow movers below your sell-through threshold. Plus lets you tune each threshold to match your business.
?Does this need access to my customer or order data?
Core product and inventory scans do not require customer or order data. Optional order-history diagnosis is limited to an eligible lab cohort, requires separate consent and a verified Shopify grant, and is not a generally available feature. It does not request customer identity, order-write, draft-order, or fulfillment-management access.
?Won't seasonal products always look dead off-season?
Yes — and that's often the point: off-season capital sitting in seasonal SKUs may be at risk. The estimated capital-at-risk math doesn't care about season; it measures whether money appears to be sitting idle. Treat seasonal flags as a read on what's tied up right now rather than a prompt to discount, and watch the weekly digest for when those SKUs start moving again.
?How is this different from running a slow-mover report manually?
Same idea, automated. DPD scans your catalog daily across all three detection categories, estimates capital at risk in dollars (not just SKU counts), and emails a weekly digest so you act before slow-movers become write-offs. The weekly digest is included on Free, Pro, and Plus; Plus adds tunable thresholds, the last 30 scans, and a CSV export of the latest flagged results.
?Can I see how the metrics work before installing?
Yes. The public metrics guide explains the three detection categories, the money-at-risk calculation, scan history, and the recommended action for each flag before you install.
?What can I do on each plan?
Free includes daily scans, the Money at Risk dashboard, and a weekly digest. Pro adds supported product actions such as discounting, hiding, archiving, and marking up. Plus adds custom thresholds, up to 30 recent scans, and CSV export of the latest flagged results. Review the proposed product change before applying it.
