## Read the scan before taking action
A first scan can flag a thin margin while starting the inventory baseline. No-movement and slow-mover signals need enough retained snapshots. A quantity change is inventory movement; it is not proof of a sale or an exact last-sale date.
Illustrative example: 20 units at a recorded unit cost of $8 represent $160 of stock cost. If those units qualify for a no-movement flag, that amount is capital tied up, not a realized loss or a promise that discounting will recover $160. Check missing costs, seasonal demand and stock adjustments before acting.
Plus shows up to 30 recent scans. Compare compatible observations after your action; inventory and cost changes can affect the next estimate. The optional order-cohort definitions below describe a separately consented lab feature, not general availability.
View Dead Product Detector plans and workflow## Money at risk
Money at Risk is a prioritization estimate across flagged products. Capital tied up uses known current inventory cost where available. Margin risk estimates forward exposure for current underwater inventory using the displayed price, cost, and fee assumptions.
It is not historical profit, a closed-period account, or an accounting balance. Unknown cost remains separate from known-cost totals instead of being treated as zero.
## Inventory observations
The first inventory scan establishes a baseline; it does not prove movement before DPD began observing the store. Later daily snapshots can surface Zombie and slow-mover candidates once the configured observation span is mature.
These observations describe stock movement, not order-event history or an exact last-sale date. The default margin floor is 5%; Plus merchants can set it from 0% to 30%. The default slow-mover threshold is 0.5%; Plus can tune it from 0.1% to 5%.
## Optional order-cohort diagnosis
After merchant consent and a verified grant, optional history measures orders created within the stated interval, evaluated using their latest readable state. The cohort clock uses createdAt. A processedAt value may identify a backdated or imported record, but it does not replace that clock.
This is not comprehensive payment or fulfillment-event coverage. A payment today for an order created before the accessible interval is not represented in that cohort.
"No qualifying orders found" appears only when no qualifying source remains for the displayed complete interval. It never means an item was never sold and does not provide an exact last-sale date.
## Demand and retained units
Demand evidence, retained units, and quantity confidence are independent:
- Paid orders remain demand evidence after cancellation or full refund; cancelled, unfulfilled units can have zero retained units.
- An order-level partial positive payment suppresses a no-order result for every line without inventing paid units. Quantity stays unknown unless independent fulfillment evidence supports it.
- Pending, failed, authorization-only, and conclusively unpaid unfulfilled orders do not prove paid demand. Ambiguous edited state remains unknown.
- Current fulfillment, returns, refunds, exchanges, line edits, deleted products, and custom lines can bound or obscure quantity. Money-only refunds do not imply returned units, and unit refunds are not subtracted twice.
- Gift-card payment does not remove merchandise demand. Gift-card products are excluded from physical-stock diagnosis.
- Test orders are excluded. A free sample with successful physical fulfillment is described as fulfilled movement, not paid sales.
Unknown evidence suppresses a negative product result rather than becoming zero. Complete catalog and variant coverage plus positive tracked stock are required for a product diagnosis. Inventory observations never fill a missing order interval.
## Scan history
Plus scan history shows up to 30 recent scans. It is a trend of the report generations shown, not a merged sales history. A change in source, interval, or currency starts a new comparison series.
The CSV export contains the latest scan's flagged results for follow-up; it is not a full history export.
## Coverage states
ready: the selected accessible interval is complete and includes source, dates, and an as-of time.ready_limited: the accessible history is complete, but a longer requested interval was unavailable. The report states the effective interval and reason.retryable_errororcapacity_limited: the last complete report remains stale; a missing prior report is never rendered as zero.access_revoked: order claims are hidden while product-only diagnosis remains available.
